excitement

The past few days have been full of typical and not-so-typical moments of excitement.

J had some excitement on Wednesday when he cruised to Connecticut to this guitar store where he bought his newest guitar (a while back) to meet the guitar player and bassist from Dreamtheater. It was pretty exciting for all of us to have an excited daddy come home all giddy and happy.
Aiden and I cruised back from Gymboree play on Thursday (I met J there and then he skedattled to get the lawn mowed). As we pulled into the driveway a neighbor pulled up in his car and pointed to our roof. This gigantic hawk was perched up there. Aiden ran around pointing at it, and then our painter said we should be careful because it seemed like the hawk was eyeing him. Uh. Right about in unison with me getting slightly paranoid and saying we should go inside, the hawk swooped off the roof heading pretty low right at J's head! Seriously if he hadn't tucked down he would've hit his head. He hit the yard next of us in his hunt. It made for a little excitement.
We were still on the hunt for some excitement on Friday, so we headed over to the Rehoboth Fair. It is less than 2 miles away, but it seems like our little suburban neighborhood disappears and everything is rural farms. I told Aiden as we drove over that we were going to visit some horses and Aiden asked if we could feed them apples (which is something he did with Rebecca a couple weeks ago at the stable where she used to ride). As we parked in the big open field and headed over to watch the horse competition in the big ring. I realized at this point that I'd forgotten my camera and that iphone camera came to the rescue. Here is the blow-by-blow photo rundown of this funny fair:

The prop comic/juggler caught our attention and Aiden was asking to rush the stage to help. Lucky Bob mocked J that he looked like an IRS agent then threw a hat at him. He asked J to throw a hat at his head and the "hard to throw hat" (according to J) somehow ended up in the dirt in front of the stage ;)
Then I fulfilled one of those bizarre 101 goals that I came up with a while back and I rode a mechanical bull - Yep, I had this crossed off my list before officially turning 30.
Who knew that there is some guy that has control over the bull with a remote control (seriously!) so most of the time I spent on the mat laughing.
J took a turn - You'll notice that 30 something old men like to curl their toes when they ride a mechanical bull. teehee.
J gave Aiden a turn during most of his time, which he loooooved.
Then in a brave moment we let Aiden take his first bounce in a bouncey house! He was a super star in there (most of the time by himself - a big crowded bouncey house would work later) and he looked like such a big boy.
Aiden had this big classic smile on his face during the entire bounce.
We noticed a big crowd formed around "Granny's Racing Pigs" and we jogged over to catch the action. Aiden was really excited to see the pig race over to their food.
I was amused by the guy hawking piggies after the event as the pigs chowed.
We cruised the games concourse wishing we knew how to play these games and actually win. Aiden was in awe of the gigantic gorilla.
We had shared some perogies for dinner which Aiden wanted to "cut" on his own.
Then we couldn't pass up the mini donuts sprinkled with Ghirardelli Chocolate. Aiden liked to eat half and insist on feeding you the rest.
There were plenty of animals begging for food bits, so J was brave enough to give each animal a test drive before helping Aiden feed them himself.
The sheep were Aiden's favorite and they gave him little kisses.
J was brave to allow this chicken to peck at his hand.
I liked watching them puff their feathers instead of risking my skin by feeding them - what a scaredy cat I am...scared of a little chicken pecking off my finger...
Aiden picked out a little purple butterfly tattoo and then wanted to climb this tree (as if there wasn't enough excitement around)
They had mini trick horses (that appeared on the Today Show) there to do little tricks, but Aiden mostly wanted to follow around these little buddies he recognized from Gymboree and ride with them in their wagon.
Then the absolute take-the-cake top moment of the night was the magic show. Aiden was pretty in to watching it on our laps or sitting in his own chair, but we could tell he was getting sleepy, so we were getting ready to skedattle. There was this cute little four year old boy on stage as the magician's assistant. They were perching little birds on him and then all of a sudden he helped a big huge fat rabbit appear out of no where. It seemed like your typical magic show, until all of a sudden it fell off track and the bunny was peeing in the kids face - no kidding - there is no pleasant way of telling the story. This kid was still smiling as they got him a towel and he kept his arms perched just as they asked him. It was just another bizarro moment of excitement at the fair.
This is a long holiday weekend for Rhode Island (something about Victory Day?), so I'm sure we're in for more excitement this weekend.
